6/26/08 Module

A little surprise: I'll be running another Create a Comic Module next Thursday. As with the first few modules, this one will be with college students rather than younger kids. The professor for the course just okayed it. The students will be taking the comics home with them, so there won't be any pictures to post.

Comics I'm using for the module:

8-Bit Theater
And Shine Heaven Now
Applegeeks
Chugworth Academy
Copper
Diesel Sweeties
Dr. McNinja
Flight
Goats
Hate Song
Krakow
Lil' Mell
Narbonic
No Pink Ponies
Okashina Okashi
Penny & Aggie
Shortpacked
Sketchies
Skin Horse
Tracy and Tristan
Unshelved

All of these templates have been used previously and are close to being retired (a template is retired once I've collected 5 copies of it). I'm hoping this module run will push many of them over the top so I can put them to one side.

6/30/08 Session Preparation: Templates

A quick update on the template status for the upcoming 6/30 sessions.

Comics whose archives I've gone through:

Afterlife Inc.
My Stupid Life
Nothing Nice 2 Say
Sorcerers & Secretaries
Versus Verses

I still need to get through Kastle Comics and Reman Mythology. Nothing Nice 2 Say is probably the comic that's waited the longest for me to go through its archives, since it joined all the way back in August 2007.

New comics with templates printed and ready to go:

My Stupid Life
Nothing Nice 2 Say
Phineus
Scary Go Round
Weirdlings
You'll Have That
Versus Verses

I also added new templates to Tracy and Tristan, Something Like Life, Diesel Sweeties, Lil' Formers, and Sketchies, among others.

Site Update

The About page has been updated. I added some more info to the background and additional quotes of support from some other comic creators. I also changed the email address to an image rather than text, since I've been getting a steady trickle of spam lately.

Reman Mythology Joins the CCP!

Another big name has joined the Create a Comic Project: Amy Kim Ganter, known for her work on Reman Mythology, Sorcerers & Secretaries, and the Flight anthology series! Her husband, Kazu Kibuishi, is already part of the CCP, having allowed use of Copper for the project.

Amy is the fourth person related to the Flight series to help the CCP, the others being Kazu (the EIC), Kean Soo, and Ryan Estrada. I've been meaning to pursue others from Flight, as those books represent comic art from arguably the best talent in all cartooning today. I'll probably do this over the summer.

6/30/08 CCP Sessions

On June 30, the Human Service Center's summer program will begin and lasts until mid-August. I'll be teaching 1 or 2 classes about creating comics during this program, a steady weekly meeting that will finally having the CCP going back to session form rather than workshops or modules. It'll be over a year since the end of the sessions I had back at the New Haven Public Library. Each session will be 1.5 hours longs for 15-20 kids from grades 3-5.

With my exams finally winding down, I've been sorting through the results of the CMT II and the workshops and modules from March and April, getting to know how many of each template I already have. I've also been getting around to going through the archives of a few comics I haven't before and making new templates. Comics I've recently finished archive trawling:

Phineus
Scary Go Round
Simulated Comic Product
Weirdlings
You'll Have That

Scary Go Round and YHT have templates made from them, I still need to produce them for the others. I've also added more to templates who ranks were depleted by being heavily used in earlier months, such as Diesel Sweeties, Lil' Formers, Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal, and Planet Karen.

More updates to come.

Kastle Comics Joins!

The Create a Comic Project welcomes its newest member: Kastle Comics by Sarah White. It's a relatively new webcomic, but the art and writing are already well developed (if you look at Sarah's DevArt account, you'll see she's been drawing for quite some time). I especially like its "slice of life" tales of a comic book store.

I'm pretty sure this is the first webcomic to join the CCP that is actually younger than the project itself. Man, I feel old.

Three New URLs for the Site

As I start advertising the Create a Comic Project a little more in the real world, I thought it might be useful to get a few "redirect" URL's that would be easier to remember than the full Comic Genesis address. The new links:

http://go.to/ccp

http://go.to/ccproject

http://go.to/createacomic

Go.to has been around for a while and some other webcomics use them, so I chose their free service. The downside is that they tack on ads when you use them (the ads disappear when you use Firefox's Ad-Block), but these links will be useful for fliers.
